63 candidates in fray for Gujarat bypolls


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The first elections to be fought under the leadership of Patel after she took over as CM also includes the nine assembly seats vacated by sitting BJP MLAs after they were elected to the Lok Sabha.Sixty-three candidates of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the Congress and independents are in the fray for the September 13 by-elections for nine legislative assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha (Vadodara) seat the stage is set for a fresh ballot-box battle in Gujarat.

The Aam Aadmi Party which had thrown its hat into the ring in the April-May Lok Sabha elections in the state has decided to skip the ‘mini polls’ described by the state’s new and first woman Chief Minister Anandi Patel herself as her ‘first litmus test’.

While the BJP has sprung a surprise by declaring the name of little-known deputy mayor Ranjan Bhatt for the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat acated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who won from Varanasi too the Congress has picked its city unit chief Narendra Rawat making it an exciting fight.

Both the parties have declared candidates for Anand Limkheda (Dahod) Deesa (Banaskantha) Matar (Kheda) Talaja (Bhavnagar) Tankara (Rajkot) Khambhalia (Jamnagar) and Mangrol (Junagadh) and Maninagar (Ahmedabad) which was vacated by Modi as a legislator.
