RTA to honour 10 best taxi drivers of Dubai


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) RTA launches the Best Dubai Taxi Operator award; top 10 cabbies to be honoured on Public Transport Day on Nov 1.The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the Best Dubai Taxi Operator award this year.

The authority will also be honouring the top 10 taxi drivers on November 1 this year to mark the Public Transport Day and RTA’s anniversary.

Mattar Al Tayer Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA said that the government policy advocates delivering best-in-class services to bring happiness to citizens residents and visitors. “We will continue upgrading the taxi transit service as it is a vital means in the daily movement of people noting that the number of taxi users in the first half of this year totaled 106.565 million riders.”

This year the RTA also opened the Drivers Qualification Centre at Al Rawiyya which is considered the first specialist smart training centre for taxi drivers of franchise companies and drivers of on-call deluxe limo service in companies in Dubai.

“Through this centre the Roads and Transport Authority is seeking to uplift the caliber of traffic safety of all taxicabs and improve the quality of service delivered to passengers; which will ultimately contribute to the happiness of clients” said Al Tayer.

RTA has identified several areas for improving and advancing the taxi service in Dubai and has instituted stringent standards and controls for selecting taxi drivers. This includes double penalty on errant drivers particularly in offences related to reckless and unruly driving or if the driver is found to be guilty of any misconduct.

The areas of improvement also include streamlining the procedure of handling complaints to ensure speedy response re-examining taxi drivers’ training method and modules exploring the possibility of revising the working hours set for drivers looking at ways of revising the procedure of calculating salaries of drivers minimising the reliance on the commission system and enhancing the control system by using digital cameras and devices to monitor drivers’ performance.
