Russia Hands over 63 Ukrainian Servicemen

Russia has handed over 63 Ukrainian servicemen to Ukraine, Major General Alexei Ragozin, Russia's deputy commander of the Russian airborne troops, said on Sunday.

"Our competent bodies have just handed over 63 Ukrainian servicemen who crossed the Russian border on August 27 to Ukraine," Ragozin said.

The Ukrainian troopers had stayed in a temporary camp in Russia's southern Rostov region where they received all necessary aid, according to Russia's (Itar-Tass) News Agency "A military transport plane delivered the Ukrainian servicemen to Belgorod airport from where buses took them to the Nekhoteyevka border post where they were handed over to the Ukrainian side," the general said.

Russia's decision to hand over the Ukrainian servicemen followed an earlier decision by Ukraine to release the Russian paratroopers who were detained on August 25.

On August 25, Russian paratroopers who lost their way crossed the unmarked section of the Russia-Ukraine border and were detained by Ukraine's security service.
