GCC states keen on ironing out differences - Kuwait FM

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states agreed on fundamentals and criteria for ironing out the differences as soon as possible through the implementation of the commitments agreed upon previously, said Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference following the 132nd session of GCC Foreign Ministers Council here, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that the session was held amid "positive spirit" and in line with directives of the GCC leaders who stressed keenness on forging ahead with the bloc's march that started more than 33 years ago to counter the challenges lying ahead.

"I can confirm that the GCC states feel pain for the situation they have experienced, but we are keen on getting rid of all differences, in line with the leaders' keenness on proceeding with the march," he added.

He underlined the fact that the GCC members realize the risks surrounding the region, a matter which prompts rapid removal of "impurities and obstacles." "We have agreed on the importance of implementing commitments, and God willing, we will witness the results of the agreement as soon as possible," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled added.

On the return of Saudi, UAE and Bahraini ambassadors to Qatar, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister said: "This may happen any time." The 132nd session today had several regional and international issues on the agenda, covering developments in Yemen, Iraq, Gaza, Syria and Libya, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said.

Yemen's Foreign Minister Jamal Al-Sallal attended part of todays meeting and briefed the GCC counterparts with the latest developments at home.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said the bloc is keen that the political process in Yemen would achieve success in line with the GCC Initiative, underlining support to President Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi efforts.

On the proposed coalition recently announced by the US President Barak Obama to counter terrorism, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister said: "We are waiting for details to know what is required to be done over the coming period. At present we do not have adequate information, or details." On reports regarding a GCC-Egyptian initiative for the Syrian crisis to be submitted to the upcoming Arab Foreign Ministers Council, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that the issue is a permanent topic on the agenda and that it will be discussed in the September 7 meeting in Cairo.

Commenting on reports over interference by UAE in Libya's affairs, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said: "What I can confirm is that the UAE role always seeks to offer assistance to brothers, and will not take another direction." The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister left Saudi Arabia for home after he presided over the GCC ministerial meeting.
