Qatar- SCH launches food inspection campaign at labour camps

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has launched a major inspection drive at labour accommodations to ensure the safety of food served to the workers.

Surprise raids have been conducted at kitchens attached to labour accommodations of several industrial facilities.

As part of the campaign, the SCH is also receiving complaints from citizens and expatriates related to food contamination at labour camps.

Since the beginning of the campaign, the SCH has collected 1,909 food samples for laboratory tests, Al Sharq reports.

A similar campaign will soon start targeting school canteens, with the beginning of the new academic year next week, said the daily, quoting a source.

All the authorised catering companies supplying food to Independent school students will come under scrutiny during the campaign.

The SCH is also working to establish a proper air monitoring system at schools to check the quality of air in class rooms and other closed areas, said the daily.

Efforts are also under way to ensure the quality of drinking water in the country and monitor the treated sewage water used for watering public parks and gardens.

Last year, the SCH collected 4,250 samples of drinking water and 133 samples of treated sewage water for laboratory tests.
