Clashes Rage Between Houthi Group Militants and Yemeni Army


Violent clashes broke out today between army troops backed by tribesmen and Houthi group militants in Al-Jawf governorate, north Yemen, an official Yemeni security source said.

The source said in a press statement that the clashes, raging for weeks, spread to the Directorate of Majzar between Al-Jawf and Ma'rib governorates and resulted in casualties on both sides.

It explained that the clashes erupted after the Houthi group gunmen attacked areas which the army and tribesmen have managed to control, noting that army troops backed by tribesmen repulsed the attack and captured 12 of the Houthi gunmen.

Military reinforcements were moved from the third military area to Al-Jawf governorate to support the army against Houthi gunmen, the source said.

For several months, Al-Jawf governorate in northern Yemen has been the scene of of violent clashes between army troops backed by tribesmen and Houthi group militants in which dozens from both sides were killed and wounded.

The Houthis are continuing escalation against the national reconciliation government by mounting militant camps at the entrances to the Yemeni capital Sana'a since Friday, August 22.
