JAL to Buy 32 Mitsubishi Regional Jets

Japan Airlines Co. (JAL) said Thursday it will place orders for 32 Mitsubishi Regional Jets as it seeks to beef up its domestic services with the first Japanese-built small passenger jet, Japan's News (Kyodo) reported.

The fuel-efficient planes are valued at about 150 billion yen ($1.4 billion), JAL sources said.

JAL envisions flying the MRJ, which is still under development by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp., from 2021. The Nagoya-based plane maker expects to start test flights next year and begin delivering in 2017.
