US judge rejects Apple bid to ban Samsung devices

(MENAFN) A judge rejected a bid by Apple to ban US sales of rival Samsung smartphones targeted in a recent USD2 billion patent trial in Silicon Valley, AFP reported.

The US-based Apple requested a ban on offending Samsung mobile devices, which were from the flagship Galaxy line, after a patent trial that ended with a mixed conclusion in May.

Jurors agreed that Samsung violated 3 of 5 Apple patents and awarder the latter USD119.6 million in damages, while Apple violated a Samsung patent and said Apple should pay its rival USD158,400 in damages.

"Apple's cited evidence indicates that Samsung tried to incorporate certain iPhone features. This evidence alone does not establish the infringing features drove customer demand for Samsung's smartphones," US Judge said.
