Saudi FM visits Qatar, Bahrain


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A senior-level Saudi delegation, including Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal Bin Abdulaziz, General Intelligence Chief Prince Khaled Bin Bandar Bin Abdulaziz and Interior Minister Prince Mohammad Bin Naif Bin Abdulaziz, visited Qatar and Bahrain on Wednesday to discuss bilateral and regional issues.

The trip took place ahead of the regular meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, due in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.

GCC Secretary-General Abdullateef Al-Zayani said earlier today in Manama, capital city of Bahrain, the GCC foreign ministers are currently debating the final minutes, submitted by the joint technical committee, for implementation of the "Riyadh accord" on settling the differences with Qatar.

"The process regarding Qatar's file and implementation of the Riyadh agreement is well underway," said Al-Zayani.

The GCC foreign ministers will discuss issues of joint interest, implementing the GCC Supreme Council's resolutions, current regional conditions and the GCC initiative for Yemen, he said.

The Riyadh accord addresses some sensitive issues of common concern for the six GCC member states.

Upon their arrival at Hamad International Airport in Doha, capital of Qatar, this midday, the Saudi delegation were received at by Head of the Amiri Diwan Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

They later held talks with Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani held talks on means of bolstering the brotherly ties between Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as the "joint GCC march," QNA news agency reported.

The delegation relayed greetings of the top Saudi leaders to the Qatari Amir, who honored his eminent guests with a luncheon and asked them to convey his greetings to Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz.

In Manama Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa discussed with Prince Saud Al-Faisal and his party at Gudaibiya Palace the special bilateral ties as well as the developments on the regional and international arenas.

They stressed the importance of maintaining stability and security in the region, steering it away from tensions, according to a royal statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

King Hamad lauded the honorable stances by the Saudi King, "which reflect bonds of fraternity and common destiny."

He also commended Saudi Arabia for supporting the march of the GCC and advocating the just Arab and Islamic causes.

The Saudi delegation also held talks with Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa.

Yesterday Prince Saud Al-Faisal received in Jeddah Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdollahian to review the bilateral relations and a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

Abdollahian's visit to Saudi Arabia and the visit of the Saudi delegation to Qatar and Bahrain coincided with security and political turmoil in the Middle East, especially in Gaza Strip in the wake of the Israeli aggression and in Iraq and Syria where the danger of Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is spiraling.
