Palestinian community in Oman hopes for lasting peace in Gaza

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Palestinian community in Oman is cautious about the latest ceasefire announced between Hamas and Israel after weeks of fighting in Gaza Strip.

Jehad Jabrin marketing director Mazoon University College said 'This is not a ceasefire but just a break. The problem has been festering for the past 60 years and there is no solution in sight. We want to live a normal life. As Palestinians we have no passports no identity. We urge the world community for a permanent solution to the problem.'

Jabrin added that Palestinians are thankful to all those who have stood by them during all these years. 'We would like to thank the international community for their support. Oman was one of the two GCC states that allowed staging a peaceful demonstration for Gaza victims. The aid provided by Oman has reached Gazans and we are gratified by this gesture of Omani people.'

Fayruz Husun a Palestinian student felt that the ceasefire may not last long. 'I think everyone is under the illusion that this is going to be a long-lasting ceasefire. This is only a temporary solution.'

Jabrin said the good news was that attacks from both sides have stopped completely. 'There were no winners in this latest round of conflict. I have lost two cousins in Israeli airstrikes. Gaza resembles a warzone as more than 10000 buildings - houses schools and other infrastructure have been destroyed.'
