NCSI estimates 1mn rise in Omani population by 2040


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Omani population is expected to rise by an estimated 1mn by 2040 according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information's latest publication 'Population Projections of the Sultanate of Oman 2015-2040'.

Figures released by NCSI in April this year had put the current population of citizens at 2212693 which is 56 per cent of total population of 3957040.

NCSI's new publication also indicates a 69 per cent rise in the population of Omani men and a 72 per rise in that of women. Children under the age of 15 years will constitute 25 to 30 per cent of the population by 2040 it says adding that those under five will form eight to 11 per cent.

According to the book the young (15-29 years) are expected to constitute 27 per cent of the Omani population. It puts the productive population estimates (15-64 years) at 64 to 69 per cent.

In 2040 45 per cent of women are expected to be in their childbearing age while the dependency ratio (productive years) will be between 45 and 56 per 100 individuals. The number of people under 30 is estimated to fall by 13 per cent the report said.
