S. KoreaUS Joint Military Drills Will Continue Pentagon

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Washington August 27 (QNA) - The United States Defense Department says the South Korea-US joint military drills will continue. Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the annual exercises will continue and reiterated its call on North Korea to meet its international obligations. Kirby also stressed that Washington's commitment to the security on the Korean Peninsula and to its alliance with South Korea is "ironclad" according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website. Kirby made the remark after being asked to comment on North Korea's deputy ambassador to the UN Ri Tong-il who had said the drills known as the Ulchi-Freedom Guardian exercises are a preparation to stage a nuclear war against his country.
