Amazon acquires Twitch for USD970m


(MENAFN) Amazon.com announced buying Twitch, a streaming site where users can watch other people play video games in real time, for a value of USD970 million in cash, Arab News reported.

The acquisition highlights the growing power of video-game culture, which has spawned tournaments and celebrity players, as well as Amazon's increasing ambitions in the media world.

"Broadcasting and watching gameplay is a global phenomenon and Twitch has built a platform that brings together tens of millions of people who watch billions of minutes of games each month," Amazon CE said.
