UAE- Attempt to smuggle 118kg of drugs foiled in Sharjah


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The substances seized in a police operation tiled hunter include 110kg of hashish 8kg of opium and crystals.The anti-narcotic department of the Sharjah Police in coordination with coastal guards managed to foil the plan of a criminal gang comprising 10 suspects of Asian African and Gulf origin to smuggle 118 kg of various types of drugs into the country. The substances seized in a police operation tiled ‘hunter’ include 110kg of hashish 8kg of opium and crystals.

Top police officials said the suspects are professional international smugglers.

He said the federal anti-narcotic department received information that a quantity of drugs was concealed in a ship that arrived at Khalid Port in Sharjah. The Sharjah Police immediately formed a team of anti-narcotic officers and coastal guards to investigate the case. The team arrested four sailors who were assigned the task of transporting the drugs in their ship loaded with various goods. The consignment was to reach Khalid Port from where it was to be handed over for distribution.

The police team laid a trap and arrested the rest of the gang red-handed and they confessed to the crime. Speaking to Khaleej Times Mohammed Al Madloum Director General of Police operation at Sharjah Police said the police would take all efforts to stop drug smuggling.
