UAE- Woman dies in RAK crash caused by fallen phone


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Their car rammed a stationary truck after her brother who was driving the car tried to pick up a mobile phone fallen from his hand.A 19-year-old Emirati woman died and three of her siblings were seriously injured after their car rammed a stationary truck opposite the Saqr Public Park in Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday as her brother who was driving tried to pick up a mobile phone fallen from his hand.

Her 18-year-old brother S.R.A. and sisters A.R.A. 11 and S.R.A. 4 received several injuries and fractures in the accident that happened in the afternoon.

According to Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim Director-General of the Central Operations Room RAK Police the brother who was driving the car caused the accident.

“He was driving the car in which his three sisters were also travelling when suddenly his cell phone fell down. While trying to pick up his mobile phone he lost control over the steering wheel. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the heavy truck” he explained. “The eldest sister G.R.A. who was sitting in the front seat died on Monday morning in the hospital.”

The Central Operations Room of the RAK Police dispatched police and traffic patrols an ambulance and rescue teams to the scene in quick time.

“All injured passengers were pulled out of the damaged car and rushed to Saqr Hospital for treatment.

“Though G.R.A. was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit she could not make it.”

Brig Ghanim said the brother and the two sisters are still receiving treatment in the hospital while the body of the eldest sister was handed over to her family.

“Motorists should be fully attentive while on the road and comply with all traffic rules and regulations” said Brig Ghanim who also offered condolences to the Emirati family.
