UNHCR official hopes Kuwait will host 3rd Syria donor conf.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Deputy UN High Commissioner for Refugees Alexander Aleinkoff on Monday expressed hope that Kuwait will host a third session of the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria next year.

The two previous conferences, hosted by Kuwait in 2013 and 2014, made outstanding achievements in mobilizing donors for Syria, Aleinkoff told KUNA after receiving Speaker of Kuwaiti National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim at the headquarters of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) here.

"The two conferences brought all UN organizations and non-governmental organizations dealing with the Syrian crisis together, which was very necessary in order keep the Syrian tragedy on the world scene," he affirmed. The UN official praised "the role of humanitarian tradition of Kuwait, which is well recognized for long time and was particularly very active during the crisis of Syrians refugees and displaced Syrians, not only through the call to the donors' conference, but also through the generous support of the United Nations organizations dealing with Syrian affairs." He added that the financial support offered by the State of Kuwait has had a profound impact on the financing of the UNHCR projects for about three million Syrians who fled to neighboring countries as well as at least seven million people are classified as internally-displaced."
