Biden renews US support to Iraq's new gov't


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) US Vice President Joe Biden reaffirmed in a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister-Designate Haider Al-Abadi on Monday, his country's full support to Iraq in the combat against terrorism.

The US and its allies in the international community are ready to play an essential role in support of the efforts of Al-Abadi's new government to maintain the unity, sovereignty and territorial safety of Iraq, the Iraqi government said in a statement.

Biden voiced confidence in the ability of Iraq's new government to overcome the menace of terrorism, the statement said, citing a readout of the call.

Earlier to Biden called Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim Al-Jabouri and lauded the latter's role in lobbying for the formation of the new government and bringing close the views of the different political parties.
