No hasty decision on PTI resignations: Pak Speaker


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) He says there is no time-limit for the speaker to act in this matter and hope some breakthrough in the current crisis.National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has agreed to delay action on resignations submitted by members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI).

Speaking at a joint Press conference with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq Sadiq said there is no time-limit for the speaker to act in this matter and hope some breakthrough in the current crisis would be possible by the end of this week.

The JI chief said the crisis would deepen if the resignations were accepted at this juncture. Sirajul Haq said he has been meeting top leadership of both sides and devised a formula that would ensure an honourable exit to them in a win-win situation. He said he was encouraged by PTI’s decision to show flexibility on its demand for resignation of Nawaz Sharif.

In Islamabad Railways Minister Saad Rafiq had a lengthy meeting with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Allama Tahirul Qadri to seek a settlement of contending positions in particular the question of registration of case in the Model Town tragedy.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the meanwhile met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss the political impasse. Shahbaz however denied reports that he has submitted resignation from the office.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari claimed on Saturday that there is “no third umpire” adding that if there was one the matter would have escalated. Talking to reporters in Lahore he said: “We are all working together.”

He said the PPP acknowledges the PTI’s right to hold on to their position when he was asked about the party’s decision to resign from the National Assembly.
