(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The decision follows a series of discussions between the department and the chairmen and representatives of charitable societies.The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) has set the price of local Udhiya or Eid Al Adha sacrificial animal at Dh500. The cost for slaughtering an animal outside the country has been set at Dh350.

The decision follows a series of discussions between the department and the chairmen and representatives of charitable societies and humanitarian establishments in Dubai and northern emirates.

Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri head of Charitable Institutions Department in the IACAD expressed gratitude to societies and establishments for their efforts and cooperation in aiding the underprivileged people. “The animals sacrificed saw a significant rise in the last two years. About 750 sacrifices were done in 2012 and 4800 in 2013” he said adding that the number is expected to reach 8000 this year.

Eid Al Adha or the feast of sacrifice is the second major Islamic festival after Eid Al Fitr.

“Eid Al Adha is meant to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) or Abraham to follow the command of Almighty Allah to sacrifice his son Ismail. It was really a tough test but this great messenger managed to pass it successfully” Islamic researcher Dr Sheikh Mohammed Ashmawy told Khaleej Times.

Though animal sacrifice is not mandatory it is highly advisable in Islam as a kind of gratitude to Almighty Allah for His endless blessings and gifts he explained.

Though it is time to celebrate and have fun Muslims around the world can learn a lesson on Eid Al Adha he said. “The faithful need to give and forgive share and care and mull over the story of sacrifice which dates back to the time of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him).”

Sheikh Asadullah M. Imam of Amena mosque said the person wishing to sacrifice an animal after the Eid Al Adha prayer is advised to divide the animal into three parts. “One for the poor one for friends and relatives and one for themselves.”
