Philippines President Leads National Heroes' Day


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Manila August 25 (QNA) - President Benigno S. Aquino III Monday paid tribute to the Philippines' past and modern-day heroes as he led the nation in commemorating National Heroes' Day in Taguig City. In his speech President Aquino urged each Filipino citizen to emulate the noble deeds of our heroes. He also lauded the country's modern-day heroes who choose to empower their fellowmen instead of spreading negativism the Philippines News Agency (PNA) said. The President cited in particular some of the Filipinos in Fukushima who displayed optimism and strong faith despite the strong earthquake that devastated Japan in 2011. He also acknowledged the heroism of Noli Dela Cruz a non-uniformed personnel who saved 36 people during the onslaught of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013 PNA said. (QNA)
