(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Seoul August 24 (QNA) - South Korea's accumulated deficit in tourism over the past ten years topped 47 billion U.S. dollars. According to the Korea Tourism Organization's data released on Sunday the country marked 47-point-16 billion U.S. dollars or 48 trillion won in tourism deficit from 2005 to June this year. The deficit dropped to one-point-26 billion dollars in 2009 as the number of outbound South Korean travelers decreased following the global financial crisis. But the nation is seeing a deficit of an annual average of three billion dollars since 2010 according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website. The number of foreigners visiting South Korea increased from about six million in 2005 to 12 million in 2013 with tourism revenues rising from about five-point-eight billion dollars to 14 billion dollars during the period. However per capita spending by foreign tourists remained unchanged with one-thousand-260 dollars in 2011 and one-thousand-161 dollars in 2013. (QNA)
