(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The much-awaited road infrastructure project along the Darsait-Wadi Kabir route is inching towards its end with Muscat Municipality officials putting the progress at 70 per cent complete.
The route “ one of the busiest in the capital “ is getting three new flyovers besides an expansion to the existing one. The work has inconvenienced motorists and pedestrians but once complete negotiating the stretch will be quicker with no bottlenecks to face they hope.
'The project is very much on track and 70 per cent of the work on the flyovers has been completed' a senior Muscat Municipality official said. Expansion work on the old flyover near the Hassan bin Thabit School in Darsait is also nearing completion he added.
Commuters and people living along the project stretch are hoping their ordeal will come to an end soon. One of them is N Z Mohammed. 'Reaching my office in CBD from my residence on Al Washal Street where the MEDC office is located is a daily nightmare as I have to drive till Darsait to turn around. Evenings are worse when I have to take the temporary diversion near the Sheraton hotel. A distance earlier covered in five minutes now takes over 15 minutes.
Good to hear that work is on track.' Said Ahmad al Zadjaly who works in CBD 'All of us who have our offices on the slip road parallel to the main Darsait-Wadi Kabir road have no place to park and in fact fewer and fewer ways of even reaching our buildings. We sincerely hope that the roadwork will soon be complete.' Meanwhile the Muscat Municipality official said that construction of flyovers in Amerat too is on in full swing. The project includes building three flyovers and removing the existing roundabouts.<
