Kuwaiti FM's visit to Geneva "important" - diplomat

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah's visit to Geneva was important as it has addressed some vital issues pertaining to the Middle East region, said a Kuwaiti diplomat here Saturday.

Kuwaiti permanent delegate at the UN offices in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim told KUNA that Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's visit showcased Kuwait's stance on issues pertinent to the Arab world and humanitarian efforts.

He indicated that Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, alongside other Arab officials, managed to convey the Arab stance on the Palestinian cause and its importance within the domain of human rights.

The Arab delegation, headed by the Kuwaiti FM, discussed with officials from the Swiss government and the Red Cross the importance of holding an international conference on the fourth Geneva convention on human rights, said Al-Ghunaim, noting that the main focus on such international event was to address the human rights violations committed by the occupying Israeli forces against the Palestinians.

The human rights situation in Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Libya was also touched upon during Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's visit, said Al-Ghunaim.

The Kuwaiti diplomat affirmed that the results of the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister's visit will provide some valuable input for the Arab League presidency currently presided by Kuwait, adding that it will also help in addressing the challenges facing the Palestinian cause.
