(MENAFN - The Peninsula) The Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah has called for collective action to end violence in Iraq and Syria, stressing that Qatar aims to do everything in its power to achieve peace and justice in the region.

In a statement issued in London, he said Qatar does not support extremist groups in the region, including Islamic State militants in any form. He said Qatar rejects their ideas, their style and their violent ambitions.

Dr Al Attiyah said the vision of extremist groups in the region are not consistent with the vision of Qatar and will not be supported at all in any way.

He said the killing of innocent civilians and the forced deportation of hundreds of thousands of people threaten the existence of Iraq and peace and security in the region. Dr Al Attiyah urged the Iraqi government to provide safety and security for civilians and said Qatar will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the Iraqi people.

He said Qatar supports the Syrian opposition like a lot of countries in the Middle East and the international community, but does not fund IS or any other extremist factions.

Meanwhile, Saudi is hosting today a meeting in Jeddah of foreign ministers of five Arab states to discuss ways to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis in view of the growing presence of the IS militants in Iraq and Syria which threatens regional security.

A statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the meeting will be attended by Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE.
