Oman boys suffer incredible batting collapse against Nepal

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The U16 Oman team suffered a disastrous batting collapse - losing all ten wickets for just 13 runs - as it was dealt a crushing 102-run defeat by Nepal in the ACC U16 Premier Cup in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on Sunday.

Chasing a tricky 165-run target at the Royal Selangor Club Oman appeared to be coasting towards victory at one stage on 49 for no loss.

However Anil Kharel (6-16) and Jitendra Singh (4-4) struck telling blows in quick succession to dismiss the Oman innings for just 62 in 29.1 overs.

Oman's opening batsmen Ivan Manjila (27) and Paritosh Bhatt (18) gave their team a solid start only to find the rest of the batting collapse like a pack of cards. Sunday's humiliating defeat against a formidable Nepal side came on the back of a five-wicket loss at the hands of Malaysia at the Selangor Turf Club on Friday.

Earlier in the competition Oman's opener against Singapore was washed out just as the sultanate side was struggling on 28 for five chasing 131 for victory. Oman takes on Thailand on August 18 at the Kinrara Oval and will play its concluding league match against Bahrain on August 20 at the Bayuermas Oval.

Brief scores: Nepal 164 in 40 overs (Jitendra Singh 32 n.o Ravindra Jug 25; Ivan Manjila 3-30 Indunil Palihawadana 2-21) beat Oman 62 in 29.1 overs (Ivan 27 Paritosh 18; Anil 6-16 Jitendra 4-4).
