(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) In the first half of this month Muscat Municipality has shut down 17 restaurants coffee shops and foodstuff outlets for violating health and hygiene norms.

A press release stated that health inspectors at the directorates of Muscat Municipality made 2677 inspection visits across wilayats of Muscat governorate resulting in the dispsal of 3606kg of rotten fruits and vegetables and 254 cans of expired foodstuff. It also issued 108 violation notices. '

The municipality will continue the inspections to ensure that safe food is provided to consumers. 'Municipality's inspection teams also visited establishments and shops to check the quality of service provided to consumers.'
