Scare on IndiGo flight after dense smoke


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The airline said some passengers had suffered minor injuries during evacuation and were given medical attention by its airport team.Passengers on board on IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi had a scare when dense smoke was observed from the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower as the aircraft landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here this afternoon.

A statement from the low-cost carrier said the flight 6E-176 with 147 passengers an infant and six members of crew had made a normal landing.

“The aircraft touched down in Delhi on runway 27 at 1535pm. As soon as the captain got the information about the dense smoke observed from the ATC tower he immediately ordered the crew to evacuate all passengers. The evacuation was done on taxi way after safely landing the aircraft” it said. All the passengers were evacuated by all the right hand side slide-chutes and one left hand side slide chute in approximately 75 seconds it said.

“We confirm that all passengers and crew members are safe and have been taken to the terminal building” it said.

The airline said some passengers had suffered minor injuries during evacuation and were given medical attention by its airport team as well as five members of its Family Assistance and Care (FAC) team members.

“They have all left for their homes already” the statement said. “Further investigations are underway. There was no fire and this was not an emergency or priority landing” the statement added.
