Fake electric products worth Dh4million seized in Dubai


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) represented by the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector seized 200000 duplicate electric products and electricity extensions worth over Dh4 million.The confiscated duplicate products bore logos of well known brand names in the local and global markets.

The seizure comes as part of the DED’s aim to maintain the intellectual property rights of brands and will help Dubai markets be free of counterfeit and duplicate products.

According to Ibrahim Bahzad Senior Director of Intellectual Property Rights DED inspectors of the department spotted two warehouses that contained duplicate electricity products.

The stocktaking of the fake products continued for over 12 hours he said.

Bahzad said the owners of the two storehouses have been fined. “This haul is a major one because of the poor quality of the seized duplicate products. Such products could lead to fires which could have claimed lives or resulted in financial losses.”
