Steel production up 1.7 percent globally in July


(MENAFN) According to the World Steel Association (WSA), global steel production rose 1.7 percent in July, led mainly by growth in Chinese output, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The latest data showed that steel production reached 136.8 million tons last month, while production in China alone, which accounts for half of all steel made worldwide, rose 1.5 percent.

Meanwhile, Ukraine, which has suffered a political crisis in the last few months, registered a net loss in steel production of 11.7 percent during the period, to 2.5 million tons.

Russia saw an 8.1 percent increase of production to 6.2 million tons, Japan's production grew 1.5 percent at 9.3 million tons and India's output rose 1.7 percent to 7 million tons.
