Malaysia's Consumer Price Index Rise


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kuala Lumpur August 21 (QNA) - The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 3.2 per cent to 110.3 in July 2014 compared with 106.9 in the corresponding month of last year the Statistics Department said. Cumulatively the CPI rose 3.3 per cent to 109.9 from January to July versus 106.4 in the same period last year Malaysia's News Agency (Bernama) reported. The department also said the CPI rose by 0.1 per cent when compared with the previous month due to increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as health by 0.3 per cent respectively. During the month the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as non-food showed increases of 3.1 and 3.2 per cent respectively as compared to the same month in 2013. The increase during the period was brought about by increases observed in the indices of all the main groups except those of communication and clothing as well as footwear which fell by 0.6 and 0.1 per cent respectively.
