Muslim org in Belgium condemns ISIL atrocities in Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Muslims in Belgium are shocked by the crimes committed by the ISIL in Iraq and, in particular, the executions and persecution suffered by religious minorities, said the Muslim Executive of Belgium (MEB) on Wednesday.

"Islam, the majority religion in this region, has always respected the freedom of belief and peaceful coexistence among all segments of society, " MEB President Noureddine Smaili noted in a statement.

The MEB said it also rejects "the name Islamic (being) attached to this group since these criminal acts have nothing to do with Islam."

It condemned in the strongest terms the activities of some young people who support the ISIL and said it will continue to consult at all levels with others to combat radicalization of Muslim youth in Belgium.

It also appealed to Muslims in Belgium to work for a world of brotherhood and mutual respect.

The MEB is the official body in Belgium responsible for social and religious affairs of the Muslims living in the country.
