Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled arrives in Switzerland

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in Switzerland, on Tuesday, heading an Arab delegation to discuss prospects of holding an international convention on protecting Palestinian civilians vis a vis the Israeli offensives on Gaza.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled started the official mission, during which he heads a senior-level Arab delegation to discuss holding an international conference for implementation of the Geneva Convention for protecting civilians at war, namely the Palestinian civilians who have been targeted with Israeli military attacks in Gaza.

Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghnem, the State of Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled would head an Arab ministerial delegation during the scheduled talks with ranking Swiss officials.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, who doubles as the current president of the Arab Summit, was accompanied by representatives of the Arab League Foreign Ministers Council, Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Salaheddine Mezouar, Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil Al-Araby and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki. It also includes the director of the Arab League bureau in Geneva, Ambassador Mohammad Al-
Khamshili.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled was received upon arrival by Ambassador Al-Ghnem, the State of Kuwait Ambassador to the Swiss Federation, Bader Al-Tunaib and other Kuwaiti diplomats.

Ambassador Al-Ghnem confirmed that the minister would hold talks with senior officials of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, considering that Switzerland is the host country of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, commonly referred to as the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The scheduled talks, he added, would deal with holding a conference, regarding the same issue, in light of the offensives targeting the unarmed Palestinian people in Gaza.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's delegation is also scheduled to meet President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres to discuss humanitarian and relief operations for the Palestinians.

Earlier in Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled was seen off at Kuwait International Airport by Acting Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ambassador Sheikh Ali Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Acting Director of Protocols Advisor Nassar Abdulraham Al-Mutairi and other officials from the Ministry.
