(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Saudi cabinet on Monday welcomed the unanimous approval of the UN Security Council resolution on cutting off funding for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Al-Nusrah Front (ANF).

In a press statement following its weekly meeting, the cabinet also recalled that the Saudi King has issued a royal order six months ago imposing harsh penalties, such as imprisonment for a period not less than three years and not more than twenty years, on nationals who join military action outside the kingdom and those linked to any regional or international terrorist group.

Acting under Chapter VII of the UN Charter which makes a resolution enforceable by sanctions or force if needed, the UN Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted resolution No. 2170 demanding that ISIL, ANF, and all other individuals, groups and entities associated with Al-Qaida "cease all violence and terrorist acts, and disarm and disband with immediate effect." The Council imposed a travel ban, asset freeze and arms embargo on six of their elements, and threatened sanctions on countries and nationals who raise money for the terrorist groups.

The Council also decided to add six individuals affiliated with the terrorist groups to the Al-Qaida sanctions list to face weapons and travel bans and an asset freeze.

Meanwhile, the Saudi cabinet also commended the final statement of the second emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. It also expressed of deep concern over the deteriorating situation and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip because of the continuing Israeli inhuman aggression and siege.
