Kuwait- Cabinet mulls bill to allow unlicensed arms collection campaigns


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Aiming to counter the disturbing and growing phenomenon of illegal possession of weapons, the cabinet on Monday asked its legal committee to revise and finalize a bill to allow security campaigns to collect unlicensed arms and ammunition.

The bill allows the Public Prosecutor to issue warrants to police to inspect individuals, homes, buildings and means of transport in search for unlicensed arms or ammunition, announced Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Justice Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah following the cabinet meeting held Monday at Seif Palace under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

He stated that the bill was presented to the cabinet by Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah due to threat imposed by the spread of such illegal weapons the country's security and stability.

During the meeting, the ministers also approved three agreements for cooperation with international organizations and friendly countries.

The ratified agreements are for legal cooperation between Kuwait and the International Development Law Organization; transport infrastructure cooperation between Kuwaiti and Spain ; and visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports between Kuwait and China.

At the beginning of the meeting, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed the cabinet on the outcome of the emergency meeting held by the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Israeli aggression against Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Minister also informed the cabinet about the outcome of his recent talks with Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby, Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu which mainly focused on the Israeli offensive on Gaza and the recent regional and international developments.

On this regard, the cabinet reiterated its strong condemnation of the Israeli practices against Palestinian people and properties.

It also urged the international community to intervene to stop the Israeli abuses and violation of all international laws.

The cabinet also discussed the latest developments in the Arab region and world.
