Air Strikes Ordered to Retake Mosul Dam Obama Tells Congress


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Washington August 18 (QNA) - US President Barack Obama told the Congress he agreed to American air strikes in Iraq to help regain control of the Mosul Dam the White House has said. This decision is within his purview of protecting US citizens in the country the White House said in a statement. "The failure of the Mosul Dam could threaten the lives of large numbers of civilians US personnel and facilities - including the US Embassy in Baghdad. It could also prevent the Iraqi government from providing critical services to the Iraqi populace" the statement said. The operations are limited in duration scope and is at the behest of the Government of Iraq it added. (QNA)
