Egypt's unemployment rate hits 13.3 percent in Q2


(MENAFN) Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced a minor decline in the employment rate during the April-June period, Saudi Gazette reported.

The second-quarter unemployment rate reached 13.3 percent of the workforce with 3.7 million unemployed, a decrease compared to 13.4 percent in the January-March period.

The agency indicated that the number of both male and female workers increased 19.1 million and 4.8 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, unemployment among males dipped to 9.8 percent, compared to 9.9 in the first quarter, while female unemployment number reached 24.8 percent in the January-June period.

Egypt's urban region scored the highest rate in unemployment reaching 16.7 percent of the workforce, while the rural areas unemployment rate was lower, hitting 11 percent.
