Imran Khan calls for "civil disobedience" in Pakistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Imran Khan, chairman of the political party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), on Sunday called on his supporters to observe "civil disobedience" against the incumbent government.

PTI, the ruling political party in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is demonstrating sit-ins against the alleged rigging in 2013 general elections just outside the Red Zone in federal capital Islamabad.

Khan, addressing thousands of protesters rallying in Islamabad, said he has given a deadline of two days to the government and demanded the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, to step down.

The PTI chairman appealed to his followers not to pay their taxes, gas bills, GST (General Sales Tax) and electricity bills till the premier tenders his resignation.

Khan warned the government that if their demands are not fulfilled then people might cross the "red zone," where government buildings and embassies are situated.

Khan's announcement came as thousands of opposition demonstrators crowded the streets of the Pakistani capital for a second day Sunday.
