Bahrain hails GCC ministerial decision to implement the "Riyadh accord"


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Bahraini Government praised on Sunday the recent GCC ministerial resolution to implement the "Riyadh accord" expressing hope the agreement would be implemented for sake of safeguarding the "joint Gulf action." The Secretary-General of Cabinet Dr. Yaser bin Essa Al-Nasser said in a statement following the cabinet meeting that the ministerial council welcomed the agreement, reached at the GCC ministerial meeting, recently held in Jeddah, as to the implementation of the Riyadh accord.

It expressed hope the GCC states would start implementing the treaty for sake of safeguarding the joint GCC action and meet aspirations of the GCC citizens.

The Bahraini Cabinet decided to form a committee, to be chaired by Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled Bin Ahmad Al-Khalifa to take the necessary measures for the agreement implementation.

On August 13, the GCC foreign ministers issued instructions to complete formalities related to the Riyadh Document, over common security and foreign policy, in no less than a week, the GCC Secretary General Abdullateef Al-Zayani had announced. His remarks came as the ministers met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss steps made in the implementation of the Riyadh Document, concluded on April 17 this year.

The document ensures working at a group level and that policies of any individual state should not affect the interests, security or stability of any other member state and without affecting the sovereignty of any of its states.

They also expressed their appreciation of the tireless efforts currently being administered by a committee tasked with the implementation of the document and steps required for its implementation, he added.

The document will support joint efforts across various spectrums aimed at further integration based on the vision of GCC leaders in maintaining the security and stability of their nations and materializing the aspirations of their people, he said.

The GCC states, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the UAE closely coordinate in various domains.

The regional bloc was established in the early 80s to seek closer coordination and integration in various domains. Yemen is represented in the body in some sub-committees.
