(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Two freight trains carrying toxic chemical collided around 3:00 am Sunday local time in the US state of Arkansas and left two people dead and two others injured.
One trail contained diesel while the other was carrying an alcoholic beverage and caught fire. The fumes from the diesel fuel increased the flames of the fire, indicated Arkansas Department of Energy Management spokesperson Kendell Snyder. Due to the toxic chemicals, around 2,700 residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
"A fire involving one of the train engines was reported still burning at daybreak, however it is not believed to be threatening any of the toxic cargo," noted an Arkansas state police statement.
The two who died and two injured were crew members of the trains.
Both trains were from the Union Pacific Railroad. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are going to the scene and will update the public once investigators arrive.
