Yemen president appreciates UN support for political settlement


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Yemeni President Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi Sunday appreciated the United Nations' support for his country and the successful political settlement based on the Gulf initiative, its executive mechanism and UN Security Council resolutions, according to the official Yemeni news agency, SABA.

Hadi discussed with Jamal Benomar, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen, the latest developments in Yemen, steps of implementing outcomes of the comprehensive Yemen National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and government efforts to counter terrorism.

Yemeni Government cut a long path in implementing the outcomes of the conference and forming a commission to write the constitution, Hadi said .

The meeting also focused on current preparations and exerted efforts for holding Yemen's friends conference in New York late September.

For his part, Benomar said that his visit to Yemen aims to follow up on the local developments in order to be discussed in the upcoming Security Council meeting on August 25 to examine the latest situation in Yemen.

Benomar stressed UN readiness to support efforts of the national body tasked with implementing outcomes of the conference to do its mission as required.

The Special envoy also met with Mohammed al-Yadomi, a senior official of Islah party, and leaders of the Houthi community.

They stressed the necessity of implementing the Gulf initiative (the peaceful and orderly transition of power), outcomes of the national dialogue and UN resolutions in order to advance to build a new Yemeni state.
