US- Biden, Poroshenko discuss Russian aid convoy

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) US Vice President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke via phone on Saturday on the Russian aid convoy stalled on the borders with eastern Ukraine.

Both of them called on Russia to "enter into good faith negotiations" so a diplomatic solution can bring an end to the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, according to the White House readout of the call.

"Poroshenko noted that Ukrainian humanitarian assistance had already been delivered to the International Committee for the Red Cross, but that safe passage had still not been secured from the separatists for the delivery of Russian aid," it said.

The two leaders "agreed that Russia's sending military columns across the border into Ukraine and its continued provision of advanced weapons to the separatists was inconsistent with any desire to improve the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine."
