UN Humanitarian Affairs Chief to Visit Iran


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) New York August 15 (QNA) - UN Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos is scheduled to pay an official visit to Iran to hold talks with the country's officials. UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a press briefing that Amos is scheduled to visit Iran on August 17-18. "She is expected to meet senior officials in Tehran. Her meetings will focus on expanding regional cooperation on humanitarian assistance and strengthening the partnership between Iran and the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA)" the spokesperson added. This will be the second official visit of Amos to Iran in her capacity as the as the UN undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator. Amos first visited Iran last September and held talks with Iranian officials including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. (QNA)
