(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission on Thursday announced a steep hike in tariff across all sections of consumers in the southern Indian state. The average effective hike will be 8.5 per cent across the board. The revised rates will be applicable from Saturday. Consumers using power up to 40 units have been spared from the hike. However the subsidy will be limited to people living below the poverty line.
This means people who are not living in their house may have to pay the increased tariff if they are above the poverty line. The commission found that flats and palatial residential buildings lying vacant have been using this special rate to reap the benefit of the subsidy.
According to the revised tariff per unit charge for those consuming more than 50 units will be Rs2.80 250 units and above Rs5 and 300 units and above Rs7.50.
The hike for industrial consumers is 10 per cent.
The hike is in response to the tariff revision proposals submitted by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) in May. For more news from Khaleej Times follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/khaleejtimes and on Twitter at khaleejtimes Follow khaleejtimes ->
