Two high courts order removal of blockades in Pakistan

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) While the government braced for thwarting protest marches in Islamabad and Lahore by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and cleric Tahirul Qadri high courts in both cities ordered removal of all obstructions in the peaceful movement of people. The administration has placed huge containers and even dug trenches to restrict the marches planned for Thursday to build up pressure for forcing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down and pave the way for free and fair elections.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered removal of all the containers installed on major arteries across the Punjab province against the backdrop of Imran Khan’s ‘Azadi march’ on August 14 in the federal capital.

The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) of Dr Tahirul Qadri has particularly been restrained even from emerging through a rally from its headquarters in Lahore. The administration has declared that Qadri would not be allowed to lead any procession.

Justice Mehmood Bhatti of the LHC remarked that usurping the fundamental rights in the name of security will not be allowed. While announcing the verdict Justice Mehmood ordered police authorities to remove all the blockades across Punjab including Lahore. The judge also expressed annoyance and reprimanded the Inspector General Police Punjab when he failed to present the number of containers placed in the province.
