Obama speaks with Netanyahu on sustainable ceasefire


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) President Barack Obama spoke over the phone Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and discussed the ongoing negotiations in Cairo to achieve a sustainable ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

"The President reaffirmed the United States' support for Egypt's mediation efforts and underscored the importance of achieving a sustainable outcome that ensures Israel's security and addresses Gaza's humanitarian crisis," said the White House in a statement.

Egypt is sponsoring indirect negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis in Cairo in a bid to extend a 72-hour truce that expires midnight today, amidst reports that the two sides agreed to extend the ceasefire.
