(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Aug 13 (Agencies): With the completion of five cast concrete water reservoirs in the West Fenaitees area each with a storage capacity of 80 million imperial gallons Kuwait's total national water reservoirs can hold up to 4.3 billion imperial gallons said an official on Wednesday. On hand to inaugurate the West Fenaitees project today Minister of Public Works and Electricity Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim indicated in a press statement that his ministry was keen on augmenting the national water storage capacity periodically to keep up with the increasing spike in the nation's population. He noted that the daily production of water in Kuwait hovers between 450 to 500 million gallons while water usage is about 427 million gallons a day. He praised the completion of the West Fenaitees reservoirs project which he said started in 2011 at a total cost of KD 47.8 million. He emphasized the overall strategy of his ministry which to is to build enough reservoirs to avoid any shortages in the supply of water particularly at times of emergencies. With regard to the ministry's campaign for judicious use of electricity and water by individuals and government agencies and ministries he said there was improvement on that front on the part mostly of some government agencies and ministries underscoring the need for more public awareness of the imperative to save water and electricity at home and at work. Also: KUWAIT CITY: State Minister for Municipality Affairs Issa Al-Kandari has eliminated impediments to the underground Metro project reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources. Sources said HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak has instructed seven governmental authorities to coordinate their efforts to push for laying down the foundation stone for the underground Metro. Sources disclosed six of the seven government authorities have agreed to cooperate in removing the hindrances indicating the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) refused. Sources added the institute has been instructed to search for alternatives and give up the site allocated for the Metro project. Asked about the date for laying down the foundation stone sources disclosed the date will be specified soon. They said the project will be implemented through the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) system with the government and private sectors as partners at an estimated cost of $20 billion. Disclosing the first phase of the project will be launched in 2017 sources said this phase includes three major lines - the first line starts from Salwa to Kuwait University with 19 stations and total length of 23.7 kilometers second line will start from Hawally to Kuwait City with 27 stations and total length of 21 kilometers and third will be from Kuwait International Airport to Jaber Al-Mubarak with 15 stations and length of 24 kilometers.
