Arab League chief calls for binding UN resolution to enforce Gaza's ceasefire

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby called on UN Security Council (UNSC) Tuesday to issue a binding resolution to enforce the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire in Gaza, and to seriously work on ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

Al-Araby made the remarks during phone calls with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and US Secretary of State John Kerry, during which they discussed current endeavors to prolonge the ceasefire thus stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the Arab League said in a statement.

Al-Araby called on the importance of providing an international protection of the Palestinian people in line with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' request to UN Secretary General last month.

The Israeli aggression on Gaza killed some 1,940 Palestinians and injured about 10,000 others.
