(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), at the level of foreign ministers, called on Tuesday the international community to press Israel to lift blockade imposed on the war-ravaged Gaza Strip and open crossing borders.
In its final statement of its extraordinary meeting, the committee Tuesday called on the ministerial team, tasked with communications, to contact with effective international parties to stop urgently Israeli aggression and convey the decisions of the meeting to those parties.
The committee affirmed that occupied Palestinian territories since 1967, including Eastern Jerusalem, form one geographical unit, noting the ongoing Israeli occupation, its illegal exercises in the occupied territories, violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law are the main cause of current tension, it added.
The committee stressed that the inability of international community to bear its responsibility to hold Israel to account for its crimes against Palestinians helped it continue its offensive and prevented Palestinian people from exercising their right of self-determination, it pointed out.
According to the statement, the committee also lauded steadfastness of Palestinians in the face of Israeli aggression, stressing its full support to just struggle of Palestinian people to restore their national rights by establishing a sovereign and independent state with a capital of East Jerusalem.
It described Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territory, including ongoing military aggression on the Gaza Strip, the Judaization of Jerusalem, siege, settlements and collective punishments as "war crimes" and a serious breach of international law.
The committee stressed that the time has come for the UN Security Council to take measures in accordance with Chapter VII of the Charter of the UN and apply them on Israel because of its constant violations of the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, the statement explained.
The committee condemned in strongest terms war crimes committed continually by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, expressing its deep concern over ongoing brutal military aggression by Israeli army against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, said the statement.
The committee called on Israel to stop urgently aggression on Gaza and bear its full legal and political responsibility for consequences of war crimes, announcing its support to the resolution of human rights council issued on July 23 that called for dispatching an international investigation panel to probe urgently Israeli crimes against Palestinians, it added.
The statement said the committee expressed its satisfaction with the emergency meeting of UN General Assembly on August 6 about the situation in Gaza in which the international community renewed its condemnation to Israeli aggression.
The statement stressed that UN Security Council should bear its responsibility for keeping peace and safety and taking all required measures to stop Israeli aggression on Palestinian people and withdraw its forces from the occupied Palestinian territories.
"In case that the UNSC fails to make an urgent measure to implement that, the committee calls on all member states of the OIC to resume the exceptional tenth session," the statement added.
The statement called on all member states and institutions of the OIC, Arab and Islamic funds and human organizations to provide urgent financial support to meet the bad needs of Palestinians through coordination with Palestinian government.
The committee called on all states to take possible measures to force Israel to stop building settlements, including imposing political and economic sanctions on Israel and boycotting companies working in settlements on the occupied territories, the statement added.
The committee expressed its strong condemnation of ongoing acts of incitement, attacks and violations of Israel in the occupied East Jerusalem, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, asserting that the continuation of these racist acts will lead to serious consequences to the security and stability of the entire region, according to the statement.
The committee called for urgent international intervention to stop Israeli campaign of arbitrary arrests, which extended to more than a thousand Palestinians.
