Qatar- QE index climbs 1.08pc, market cap soars QR7bn


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar bourse's main index climbed 1.08 percent to finish at 13,279 yesterday. Barring consumer sector, all other sector indices gained with the real estate rising the most by 3.05 percent. Barwa real estate jumped by 4.10 percent.

Investors gained QR7bn in a single day trade as the market cap rose to QR 705bn from the previous session's QR698bn. A total of over 24 million shares exchanged hands from 10,021 transactions. Total traded value increased by 28.37 percent to QR950m.

Among the banks and financial services stocks, the shares of Qatar Oman Investment Company surged to 10 percent to QR17.49.

Of the 43 listed companies, 28 gained, while 14 dipped. Qatari individual investors bought over 11 million shares worth QR376m, or 39.57 percent, of the total shares bought. They sold a volume of 12 million shares worth a total value of QR445m, or 46.85 percent, of the total shares sold. Qatari institutional investors bought a volume of 4 million shares of 35 firms for a value of QR169m, or 17.81 percent, of the total shares bought and sold over 6 million shares of 37 firms for a value of QR271m.
