Arab League urges Egypt to continue efforts to reinforce Gaza truce


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Arab League on Monday urged Egypt to carry on with efforts to reinforce the truce between the Palestinians and Israel, calling for resuming indirect negotiations to reach a final agreement that could put an end to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The Arab League Council held a meeting in Cairo today on the level of permanent representatives to discuss the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza. The council will be in a state of permanent session, it said in a statement.

It added that the League Secretary General, Nabil El-Araby, reviewed a report during the meeting on the Arab diplomatic efforts on the international level to stop the Israeli military aggression on the Strip and provide support for the Palestinians.

According to the statement, the Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat, offered a report on conditions in Gaza after the aggression that killed 1,940 Palestinians and injured 10,000, in addition to the huge damage to the infrastructure.

Erekat called for mustering Arab and international efforts to open land, sea and air corridors to provide relief aid to Gaza.

Today's meeting lauded the initiative by Algeria calling for a special meeting for the UN General Assembly to stop the aggression on Gaza and provide urgent humanitarian aid to the people there.
